The authors erected the genus Pomoleuctra based on their study of Paraleuctra adults with scanning electron microscopy. Paraleuctra purcellana is designated as the type species for the genera Pomoleuctra. They provide a key for the two species, Pomoleuctra purcellana and Pomoleuctra purcellana. They also key out the nearctic adults of the family Leuctridae and the males and females of the genus Paraleuctra.
